This is just my personal blog about the things going on in my life, particularly here in Nashville. Sometimes it is just messages to myself I want to put down, whatever.

Phantasy Star Online GC still a fantasy

A few weeks ago when I was working on the Xbox hack I decided to look for any hack for the Gamecube. I found a simple workaround/exploit that allows you to download and run code on the Gamecube or even play ripped games or rip them yourself. All you need is some software available on the internet, a Gamecube broadband adapter (ethernet adapter) and a game called Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2(PSO). I was able to find a adapter at a BestBuy, it had a layer of dust on the package. Then I found a small video store outfit that had Phantasy Online 1&2 Plus, so I bought it. I get home and find out the version of the software I have does not support Plus. So I find a newer version of the software on the internet that does support Plus. After I read the line saying PLUS support I open the game package. I try to run the game and software and it is not working. I go back and read more of the information about support and find out that the support requires more work than the connect and run support for the first version. You have to run your own DNS server and trick the Gamecube, I know computers and networking but I could not find a simple program that would do what I needed and decided to give up.

So I held my breath and put PSO:Plus up for sale on eBay, I put at buy now for the price that I paid for it including tax and it sold on the last day for that price. Then I went back to eBay to get PSO, not Plus, because it was impossible to find locally. After missing a steal of a price on an auction I find one that cost the same as the PSO Plus that I sold and decided that was ok since it would be na even trade in my book. That was on 2/16, when I won and paid for the auction, up until today 2/27 I have not received the game. The seller told me she mailed it and I should expect it. She lives only two states away and since my PayPal address was correct and up to date and the game was only $30 bucks I didn't think it was necessary to get insurance since I rarely ever get insurance. The seller charged $5 for shipping but says she sent it Media Mail which I know is at most $1.90 for a game in box the size of the small Priority Mail box. For my $5 she could have just mailed it Priority Mail in a box provided, that costs $3.80. I hate eBay sellers who try to make an extra profit on shipping. I emailed her a couple of times and she promised it was shipped and on its way and that she had a receipt to prove it. In my last email I asked her to tell me what address did she ship it to, just in case some old addresses on eBay might have gotten used. That shouldn't be the case since I paid through PayPal with my current address but I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She didn't respond. So I check on eBay what I should do, I get her contact info, phone number, etc. So I call her number and a guy answers the phone, I ask for the seller and he says she is on some little vacation and that he will pass the message to her.

Bottom line, if I do not receive the package on Monday 2/28, I will have to leave negative feedback and go through eBay and PayPal to use payer protection. It seems that atleast one other person in the last month left negative feedback about similar circumstances on his auction with this seller. I have no idea why this is becoming such a problem. And now I see other auctions on eBay that I could get but I have to wait until this is resolved somehow.
